Guiding

The guiding programme offers opportunities for anyone, whatever their capabilities and skills.  The Eight Point Programme is followed by all Guides in the Guide Association and is adapted to suit each girl's age and ability. It allows for all sorts of activities, whether they are inside, outside, involve sport, making things, helping others, the environment or more. The Eight Point Programme is flexible. It needs to be, as all girls are different.

Guides have fun!
Guides have the opportunity to take part in outdoor activities, such as camping, and sometimes in specialist activities such as fencing, abseiling, canoeing or archery. There are more than 80 Interest badges, from Musician to Interpreter, Cook to Conservation. The programme provides a framework for each girl to be able to develop at her own speed. Community and charity work, and generally helping others are all part of being a Guide.

International Opportunities
Since the Guide Association is part of WAGGGS (the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) there are plenty of opportunities for members to travel. There are 9,000,000 Guides and Girl Scouts in 136 different countries round the world. A

Older Guides, Rangers and Adult Leaders often have the opportunity to travel - to take part in international camps or holidays, to attend World Conferences or workshops, or to be part of overseas development projects. International events are held all round the world - Chile, Japan, Russia, USA, the UK, Sweden and many more countries.

Brownies have fun!
They try out new skills - anything from singing to first aid. They enjoy nature and the out of doors, take part in games and learn to be part of a team. Brownies are encouraged to do simple jobs at home such as making their beds. Helping is part of being a Brownie, and the Brownie Guide Law is A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day . The highlight of the year is often Brownie Pack Holiday, when the whole Pack goes away together, staying indoors or in tents.

They play games, paint, make things, listen to stories, sing songs, take part in outdoor activities and learn about the environment. There may be opportunities for special outings at weekends.
